TACKLING YOUTH VIOLENCE IN SNG 22

We believe that all children and young people should grow up happy, healthy and safe. Youth violence and all the associated issues is one of the capital’s biggest threats to this. Many local, regional and national voluntary sector groups are working on ways to try to stem the rising tide of youth violence, and in London, groups such as London Youth, London Funders and the Mayor’s office are trying to look at ways to tackle the issue.
Our members have asked us to convene a regular forum to discuss the issues children and young people face in regard to this matter, and to look at what already exists and what the gaps are in tackling youth violence. We believe that by opening this dialogue, we can ensure voluntary and statutory services can work more effectively together to deliver services, identify gaps and apply for funding.

In 2022, the Young Ealing Foundation were commissioned by the Mayor of London's Violence Reduction Unit’s My Ends funding to research the experiences of violence impacting young people in Southall and Norwood Green.

The subsequent report explores what makes young people feel unsafe in their community, and what some of the potential solutions are.

Using the input of Young People, we have been able to produce clear recommendations to address the issues raised in the research.

We are supporting the voluntary and statutory sectors to work together to ensure that Southall is an area where young people feel safe to achieve and live their best lives.
